“Terrible storm, wind and waves, scared to death and about to die, calling out to Jesus for help – and then getting a strong rebuke.”

In the Bible, God’s great purpose of salvation in Jesus Christ is all about transforming all of us self-contained, selfish little “Me’s” into the “Us” of the eternal people of God, the family God is creating on earth through His Son, our Brother and Lord, Jesus Christ.

“For He casts the seed in every direction, onto every different type of soil – a sower who clearly wants every type of soil to have at least the chance to receive the seed. The sower is Jesus, of course. And the seed, as He tells us, is the Word of God.”

God gives the Holy Spirit – which is, at last, the power needed for us truly to be transformed, truly to keep the Law, truly to live as those who have indeed been set free from sin and death.

“I entered your house; you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss my feet. You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment.”

Even the disciples, who were with Jesus night and day, who witnessed Him risen from the dead – even they wrestled with doubt. All of which suggests that doubt is not the enemy of faith, so much as it is just faith’s expected companion.
